The Envoys of War, by Dave Lawson

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“This is a plan that cannot possibly work”, is probably one of the sentences you will mutter to yourself at each page as we follow the characters freeing themselves from snag after snag.

A collection of misfits who can not possibly function together for more than a few minutes teams up to save the day and pretty much everything they plan fails.

There’s double-crossing and double-double-crossing, sprinkled with plenty of banter and bloody battles. I would like to have learned a bit more about the different countries and why they were so eager to rip each other’s throats, but that did not take anything away from the plot. A very interesting magic system and an easy for fans of all things fantasy!
