Oksy, come home, by Phil Williams

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I received a copy of “Oksy, Come home” as part of the Speculative Fiction Indie Novella Competition (SFINCS).

This was a short and to the point story, following the journey of Oksy, the only female soldier, while she tries to prove her value in a male-dominated military.

“Oksy, Come home” is a fast read and I very much enjoyed the letter excerpts at the beginning of each chapter and how it contrasted with what was going down in the scene.

I would like to have seen a bit more of the MC internal conflicts and her reasons for joining the war in the first place. Williams alluded to it at the end of the story, but I feel it could have been interwoven in the plot from the onset. This novella had a great pace and covered the plot perfectly with a satisfying ending that left me curious to read more about those characters. I would recommend this story for the fans of military fantasy.
