After the Syzygy, by J.D. Sanderson

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I received a copy of “After the Syzygy” as part of the Speculative Fiction Indie Novella Competition (SFINCS).
How would we behave if we received confirmation that there is intelligent life outside Earth? This story narrates the trajectory of humanity from the moment we receive a signal from outer space and spans for three centuries after this defining moment. This history is told from snippets of the life of different people involved on different aspects of what becomes a global effort to find the origins of this signal.
I liked the premise of several interlinked short stories separated by several decades, though I missed learning more about some of the key events in this journey of discovery and some of the characters perhaps deserved a little more time to shine.
Overall it has a positive message and I believe that fans of Sci-fi will enjoy this story.
